Nutrition & Sports

The theme Nutrition and Sports encompasses all activities related to nutrition and physical activity including sports in relation to health, performance, quality of life and disease prevention. The theme includes large intervention studies in nutrition and physical activity to assess health effects as well as molecular mechanisms explaining effects of the interventions.

Therefore, research in this theme can be conducted in humans of all ages and health status, including elite athletes and patients, with descriptive or invasive procedures sampling blood, muscle and adipose tissue. Supplementing the humans studies are rodent and cell experiments focusing on effects of gene manipulations on metabolism and insulin action. Major themes are prevention and management of obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and other diseases related to lifestyle. Societal influence on behavior related to activity and inactivity and obesity is also studied, as are interventions related to malnutrition in developing countries.

The departments, centers and sections mentioned below are examples of places where it would be possible to conduct research within the programme area. As is stated in the TALENT Guide for Applicants, applicants are to indicate the research department they see most fit to host their project.
